Tech Brown bag sessions are intended to provide short (1-hour) technology session that focus on the computing needs and interests of JCCC faculty and staff. Sessions are coordinated by the Ed Tech Center and Staff and Organizational Development. Sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m.  (See locations below...All sessions in GEB 264 unless noted otherwise)

Snacks and soft drinks are available courtesy of Staff & Organizational Development.

Exploring Windows 7: Why the Change? Windows 7 is coming to your desktop, and we’ll investigate the features of Microsoft’s new operating system. We’ll take a look at new features, and how these new features help us manage documents and files more easily than in Windows XP. Microsoft built new tools into the operating system, and we’ll examine these new tools to see how they provide additional benefits. Finally, we’ll discuss the status of the Windows 7 roll-out at JCCC.

This presentation will be a panel discussion on eBooks, both as an educational resource and consumer trend for personal reading. We'll discuss our current and future plans with the JCCC library, bookstore, and Educational Technology Center. Bring your questions and join in on the discussion.

JCCC in Second Life

Second Life is a world-wide virtual reality platform for user-generated community, play, business and education. Catch up on recent projects at JCCC’s island in SL, including visualizations of Toni Morrison novels and anthropology student explorations of cultural patterns. Faculty involved in these projects, including Carmaletta Williams and Kit Gorrell Frankenfield, will discuss and answer question in addition to the ETC staff involved.

Secure Testing in ANGEL

In this session, you'll learn how to secure your tests in ANGEL. We will look at using the ANGEL Secure Browser in the Testing Center, internet address restrictions, proctor passwords and other settings that lock down the student testing environment.

In this session you'll learn how to employ agents, environment variables, macros, grading rubrics and the Grade Link. Our students bring their own devices into the classroom. There are a range of options for engaging them with that technology in a productive way. We’ll look at Twitter and online polling as two examples, and talk about the pros and cons.

Using Web Conferencing Tools in Your Online Classes In this session, you'll learn how to use simple Web Conferencing tools in your online classes. We will look briefly at the Chat, Whiteboard and Screen sharing tools in ANGEL. We will also look at how to use Adobe Connect Pro web conferencing software, including meeting setup, inviting attendees, uploading and sharing content, and conducting/archiving sessions.
