iTeach Online Workshop (formerly WebCeTera)

This five week, online workshop explores how you can place instructional materials, quizzes and discussions online using Blackboard Campus Edition (CE) 6 course tools. This session is beneficial for current and future online instructors as well as faculty members who wish to place instructional materials online for face-to-face classes. The five iTeach Online Modules cover:

Read Me First What is iTeach Online?, What You Need to Do and Know to Start the Course.
Module 1

Accessing Blackboard CE as a Student, Introduction to Blackboard CE, the Interface, the HTML Creator and the Blackboard CE Communication Tools: Calendar, Discussions, and Mail.

Module 2 Building Your Course in CE 6, Adding Tools, Adding Section Designers, Managing Files and the Basic Tools: Announcements, Calendar, Chat/Whiteboard, Discussions, and Syllabus

Module 3 Bringing Content into Your Course Using the Content Manager, Import/Export, and Working with the Learning Modules and the Media Library Tools.

Module 4 Adding Course Assessments Using the Assessments Tool and Respondus.

Module 5 Adding Assignments Using the Assignments Tool and More.

By the conclusion of the course, you should be able to:

  • Identify and use the major tools and features available in Blackboard CE 6.
  • Add, arrange, delete and modify settings for the appropriate tools used in a Blackboard CE course shell (e.g. Assessments, Assignments, Calendar, Chat/Whiteboard, Discussions, Grade Book, Learning Modules, Mail, Media Library, and Syllabus tool).
  • Create (using the HTML Creator), manage, and transfer content files used in your online course shell between your computer and the JCCC CE 6 server.
  • Know the expectations for a JCCC online faculty member.
  • Participate in an online discussion of instructional issues related to online course design and online instruction.

iTeach Online is not a self-paced course but rather an interactive class that gives faculty a chance to experience being an online student--as they learn CE 6. Participants will receive the textbook (a volume of practical tips for online groups--a fast read) and upon successful completion, an iTeach t-shirt. Previous students in iTeach (formerly WebCeTera) have estimated that it takes from 8-10 hours per week to successfully complete the 5-week course.
