Step 4: Professional Appearance
Keep in mind that first impressions are made in the first five seconds.
Dressing for Success
- Invest in clothing pieces that are of the best quality that you
can afford.
- Match your clothing to the style of your client. Keep your
clothing on the same level.
- Keep it simple! Solid colors such as taupe, red, grey, white and
black are always good choices,
- Red and black are power colors!
- Command presence through classic accessories. Watch, leather
briefcase, well-maintained shoes.
- Make sure that hair is out of your eyes to ensure good eye
contact.
- Jewelry should be limited. Rings: one per hand. Earrings: one for
each ear and no larger than a quarter.
- Skirts only one to three inches above the knee should be worn.
- Always go light on the perfume or cologne.
- Belts, shoes and purses should coordinate.
Body Language
- Use good eye contact but be sure not to stare.
- Stand three feet from a person when communicating to avoid
invading the individual's personal space.
- Stand when introducing yourself or being introduced.
- Upon introduction always extend your hand first.
- Make sure to have good posture with your chin up and shoulders
back.
