Conference Course Number: Graduate credit: ENGL 2007-01
Course Title: English Seminar
Tuition: $240 ($80 per credit hour). Payment must be made by cash, check, or credit card. To receive credit, payment of $240 must be made to Friends University on the first day of the conference.
Course Description: This is a graded course that has been created for educators and professionals who are working either in the public or private sector. The primary intent is to analyze the content of some of the sessions, review research in the field of English, and provide application for the information obtained at the conference in a lesson plan. 3 credit hours.
Course Requirements:
- One page analysis each of three sessions
- Lesson plan using a concept that was discussed at the conference: (not something you havealready used in the classroom). Include In the lesson plan the following:
- Expected Learner Outcomes: What you want students to know when they complete the task or the lesson
- Procedure for the Lesson: What you plan to do in the order you plan to do it and the time you estimate it will take to do it (Introduction of the material and closure)
- Audience and Appeal: Who gets the benefit of your lesson and what is needed to make students listen
- Assessment: How you plan to evaluate the lesson. Be specific. For example, if you plan to use a rubric, include it with the lesson plan.
- Research three sources that support your lesson plan instruction. This is a research paper, and as such, should be written in third person and should include the following:
- Information from three peer-reviewed sources that helps validate your lesson plan
- Sources must be legitimate—avoid Wikipedia and other encyclopedias
- Minimum of three pages, Times New Roman font, 12 point
- APA or MLA documentation in-text and references required
- Format APA or MLA required

Evaluation: The written material will be graded on content, organization, conventions and documentation. The lesson plan will be graded on intellectual content, planning and sequence, creativity and meeting the lesson plan requirements. When you have completed the requirements, you should have three parts to e-mail: the three analyses, the lesson plan, and the research paper.
